Lizzy received her B.A. in Dance from Goucher College which laid the foundation for her understanding of movement and body mechanics. She then danced professionally throughout the Baltimore area and completed the rigorous Romana’s Pilates certification program in New York City, studying under world renowned teacher trainers including Sari Mejia Santo, Brie Adina Neff, and Cynthia Shipley. Driven by her passion for helping others, she pursued further education and earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Lizzy has been teaching classical Pilates in the Baltimore area since 2014 and frequently integrates her physical therapy knowledge into Pilates sessions to best help her clients achieve their goals. In her physical therapy practice, Lizzy specializes in orthopedics and pelvic floor physical therapy.

Outside of work, Lizzy enjoys discovering the best restaurants around Baltimore and moving her body whether she’s chasing her two toddlers, hiking, or running.

I take a holistic approach to each session while fusing my knowledge of anatomy and physical therapy principles with my expertise in the Pilates system of exercise. I take the time to listen to my clients’ concerns and consider the best way to help them reach their goals.   • Pilates is a comprehensive exercise system with over 500 exercises that emphasize strength, flexibility, body awareness, alignment, and coordination of movement. This exercise method, originally termed “contrology,” was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early-20th century. The countless benefits of Pilates are valuable for a wide range of fitness levels from novice mover to high-level athlete.

  • Joseph Pilates was a German fitness guru who lived from 1883-1967. He spent his life developing what he called “contrology” and what is now known as Pilates. “Uncle Joe,” as he is lovingly called, also invented all of the Pilates equipment that is still used today.   • Pilates emphasizes core strength, flexibility, and coordination of movement and has been shown to reduce risk of injury and improve posture, balance, muscle tone, and overall body awareness.

  • Pure Alignment Pilates is a classical Pilates studio that specializes in private and small group sessions, allowing clients to reap the maximum benefits from their sessions. As a classical Pilates instructor, Lizzy’s training is as close as possible to the original exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates. As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Lizzy has extensive training in anatomy, physiology, body mechanics, and alignment.

  • With in-home sessions, the Pilates comes to you! Lizzy will meet you at your home for your Pilates session. Travel fees may apply.

  • For in-home lessons, no equipment is necessary; Lizzy will provide a mat and magic circle for the workout. We may also utilize any Pilates equipment that you have in your home.

    For virtual lessons, you will need an exercise mat and a device (computer, phone, etc.) to access your lesson. It may also be helpful to have access to a magic circle and 1lb weights. If you have any other equipment in your home, we may utilize it.

  • For beginners, the best place to start is with private lessons. This will allow you to truly learn and understand the fundamentals of Pilates with a workout that is tailored to your unique body.

  • There is no hard and fast rule. However, for best results, it is recommended to practice Pilates 2-3 times per week. This could be a combination of private lessons, mat classes, and practicing on your own.
